Over the weekend Mark and I were invited to a luau...This is something our friends do every year in August..It's not about a certain holiday or inviting certain friends or family..Its just what they do. This was our first yr. to go..Most of what we do in our family is around a particular holiday..In fact most of our traditions are holiday themed..
Sooo. this got me thinking..What a great idea, to incorporate a party based on something your family has or does and do it every year..Invite different people or the same. It doesn't matter.
Liz and Jake have a family in their stake that has little ice cream cones every sunday night in their yard ..Everybody in the stake is invited and comes if they can... They do this during the summer months...
Brandon and Heather love Basketball. They have a sport court..So every summer you can plan on being invited to play hoop..(It's what they do)..They have b-b-cue dinners and they invite different people over ....
Cindy gets together once a month with her "gourmet girls"..These are friends and neighbors who get together and share fun recipes..
Here's some photos of our fun night with Duane and Karen..
I'm standing by the tiki bar..They served snow cones..
Tables were set up with Luau themed decorations
Everyone was given a lei

This was the cutest table..It had all kinds of candy..They had little bags to choose from, you filled up your bags with the candy you liked ..Yum!!!
Here's Mark and Duane
They had all the food inside on the bar...Sweet and sour pork and chicken, Steamed rice, Ham fried rice, Rolls, Fresh fruit, Shrimp with cocktail sauce..Lots of pasta salads, chips.Even the plates were luau themed..
Lemon bars, brownies, pecan sandies..Oh yeh!!
Here's my cute friend Karen..(Notice our cute hawaiian outfits?)

Thanks Duane and Karen for a fun night and sharing such a great idea..
EVERYONE IS SO DIFFERENT, AND HAS SUCH GREAT IDEAS..FEEL FREE TO SHARE ANY THOUGHTS YOU MIGHT HAVE OR THAT YOU DO..
Mark and I need to get out of our rut, and try something a little different AND FUN...

How fun, I get very sad to think that there wasn't any dancing there, next time if you go, tell them that your bringing entertainment, and well come do a hula show for you all...
Karen and Duane usually have hula dancing..It started to rain on our party. So luckily the pics. I took were before the downpour...It didn't stop anyone from having a great time, though..
Your kids would be too cute...Thanks for the offer..I might just pass the word about the entertainment...How fun would that be??
I'm just envying the food. Throw one of these bad boys and our family will definitely be there.
I personally love the first picture.
Love ya
I just wanted to thank you for coming over to my sister Shaunas blog and voting for the picture of my adorable daughter in the photo contest I entered! You have a very beautiful family by the way!
Thanks again :)
yo yo! it's me. and yes, it's 1:20 am. i didn't get a chance to tell you that the other day, i was all upset and worried about moving and then i got your little comment that you were thinking about us... it was such a comfort and so sweet! even though i'm so happy and excited, it has really been an overwhelming and... can i say... slightly traumatic few days. particularly for me, my mom, and peli. but all is well. or it will be some damn day right? anyway, love you and we'll talk to you soon. and PS: from your luau pics (how fun by the way!) what had they put into those big jars? i have some decorative jars to fill and i need some cute ideas that aren't superexpensive!
