Last April we all had the chance to stand and sustain our new prophet and leaders in General Conference......Part of the sustaining is being willing to serve anyway the church needs us...Last Week-end Joe received a new calling..That call was to be Executive secretary in the Bishopric...The call came one day after Joe brought home # 5...
I was struck by his humility and willingness to serve our Heavenly Father...Joe is the operations officer and C.O.O. for a company..He teaches at University of Phoenix ..and now this call..He will definitely be busy..
Justin also received a new calling...He's the Deacon's Quorum Advisor..He'll go on all the camp outs. and help the boys with fast offerings and be their teacher...
Justin will be so good with those boys...Like he his with his own..Very attentive and he'll care a great deal about them....
Ethan was also sustained this week-end as the Assistant Bldg. Supervisor...He was crackin me up with his comments..Ethan coordinates the maintenance on the building..He said without someone doing his job we would all be paying 11% tithing.. I love his willingness to serve how ever he can..He has the best attitude, and will be the best at whatever he does..He's been serving as a permanent substitute teacher in Primary and probably will continue to do so.....The bishopric also asked Ethan to speak in church on Fathers Day too.... (What an Honor)
When we are willing to serve we learn new skills..With that comes new opportunities for growth and our testimony grows...Some of my best friends now are those I have served with in various callings..
Without embarrassing the whole family the Heugly's are serving their Heavenly Father in other calls as well...
We have primary teachers..A high Priest group instructor, an enrichment activity coordinator. we have a Y.W. Secretary. Cub Scout master. One of the brothers has been Gospel Doctrine teacher and 2nd counselor in the Elders Quorum....One of the Girls is an emergency contact for her ward. She has a radio and had to take a class to be certified...She also does Scouts. We also have a teacher in Sunday school that teaches the 14 yr.old class the Gospel Doctrine lessons...
We blog about what everyone is doing all the time...But in my opinion being willing to serve Heavenly Father is the most important thing we could be doing with our time...Certainly raising our families is the best service we could give...But to think that besides that, we are willing to serve, I think that is a testimony of our faith..
In the conference ensign it states that-- "Service makes us strong in our faith. Service gives us courage in life. It brings us closer to God. It helps us to forget ourselves and personal desires, eliminating selfishness and pride"...
Kindness, love, patience, understanding and unity will increase as we serve..Those who serve will strive to build and lift their fellowmen; therefore, they will find the good in others..
We are living in such a confused time...Our only hope will be to stay close to the church and its leaders..
Congratulations Joe, Ethan and Justin on your new callings...And to everyone else, I'm proud of your willingness to serve...Our little family is making a difference in spreading the gospel....
